Jon Bernstein
Hey Phil, it's Jon from the boards. Hope all is well. I just need to tell you that I cant wait to see you guys multiple times this year and im counting the days until April 22. I'm sure you love every song off of The Black Swan, but does any song stand out to you personally? If so, why? Catch ya on the boards my friend.
'Terrified' says a lot, so does 'message to the world' and one song in particular that didn't make the record. i'm sure it'll be released at some point. either way we are stoked for the entire record! thanks for the support. see ya soon jon!

Hey guys whats going on. I'm in a band here in St.Louis and we're in the finals for the battle for pointfest. We've really been taking this serious and trying to get our cd finished and we want to try and get picked up somehow - do you guys have any advice or anything that you guys did in the journey of trying to get signed... thank you for your time. You guys probably get this a lot but if you do want to check out my bands page we're "the new translation", music search it on myspace.
my advice is to be the best you can and the hardest worker you know. when you find yourself in a band where that is all the members mindset, then you are on the way. good luck with pointfest!!!

Hey guys, I just wanted to ask you if you guys would come back to Little Rock, Arkansas sometime soon. I saw you guys once here with hoobastank, p.o.d. and linkin park but its been so long and you guys are my favorite band. Keep up the good work.
we loved that show. that was the loudest show of that entire tour then we went and hung out a vinos pizza joint which we had played at years before (other bands) im sure we will make our way back around to little rock. we tour like mad men so the odds are good...

I think this might turn out to be one of the dumbest questions you've been asked but, the first time i heard "until the day i die", i was in a sort of blur as to what the meaning of the song was. i probably interpreted it wrong. is it about someone you've loved deeply at the same time hate them for the things they've done wrong??? please throw me a bone - long time fan from Florissaint MO. thanks a lot.
well actually its sort of universally written so people can interpret it in whatever way they feel fit. but it is directly about being in our band and giving up everything to travel and work with each other in fulfilling a dream.

Why page ave? Why not delmar? or olive? Manchester? What was the factor in the choice?
Well, page avenue was the best landmark that all of the members of story of the year had had a direct connection to. whether it was working on that street, living on it or hangin somewhere on page throughout childhood... it was a central location that we all had ties to.

I actually have 2 quick questions. 1) Besides St. Louis, what is your favorite city to play in? and 2) any advice for up and coming bands? Thanks for your time and cant wait to see you guys on the road. Its always a blast! See you then!
1) personally i love playing in sydney australia. im sure there would be a few different answers among the fellas but australia is quite a memory. 2) be the best you can and the hardest worker you know. when you find yourself in a band where that is all the members mindset, then you are on the way.!

Hi guys! First, I'd like to say thank you for being such a great band, great people who make music and do have fun too! ;) I'm really looking forward for your next album and dvd! I would realllllly like to know which amps you are using, live. On many studio pictures, I've seen Marshall, Bogner, Peavey, Orange, MESA... At least, which ones on the is this fate and stereo (studio). It sounds sooo tight :) I just bought my first PRS (what a beauty) and I'd really love to get a sound as close as yours. Thank you for answering and come back in Quebec City, you know we love you here, always big shows... See yah!
Thanks Dany, for years Ryan has used a Modded Marshall live. for the last record cycle i combined a bad cat hot cat 100 with a peavey live. of course we both use PRS live and in the studio but a lot of times in the studio a blend of amps gets used for rhythm tracks... everything ranging from Bogner ecstacy to bad cats to soldanos. Live is a different game though. right now im experimenting with mesa stilettos because i found the bad cat had little to no road worthiness.. hope that helps!

Is the new CD going to be anything like Page Avenue or are you guys going to change it up? And are you guys planning on coming back to STL?
We will definitely play a number of st. louis shows. Home shows are our favorites. The Black Swan is a progression where we really captured who we are and what we can do while still being able to change it up and add some elements that we think are valuable and evidence of true growth... as musicians, performers and people. Thanks Nick... see ya soon at a St. Louis show!

I was talkin to a guy from Epitaph (EpitaphYoda) and I asked him what the story was behind the name "The Black Swan." He really didnt give me an answer, so I'm just wondering what the meaning is. Thanks, Craig
well, its a reference from a 17th century philosophical thought experiment in which western thinkers conception was that all swans were white. In that context, a black swan was a metaphor for something that could not exist. The discovery of black swans in Australia metamorphosed the term to connote that the perceived impossibility actually came to pass. there is currently a book that brings the term to use in modern day events that we unpredicted... Google, 9/11, basically anything that seems impossible and unpredictable but in hindsight seems sort of inevitable to human thinking. in essence the music industry and success within it is sort of a black swan... with this record we had a new perspective on a lot of things. our past as a band , our future, the world, the cosmos, politics, philosophy, business, people and so on, so it seemed to kind of fit what we were trying to do for ourselves... hope that helps - great question by the way...
