Outstanding Older Worker Contest of 2010
Celebrating its 20th year, the annual Older Worker of the Year contest sponsored by MERS/Goodwill is accepting nominations to honor a Missouri resident for 2010. Help recognize an older worker by filling out a simple form. Nomination forms are available on the Department of Health and Senior Services’ website, http://www.dhss.mo.gov/OlderWorkerNominationForm.pdf. Nominees must be 65 years of age or older, employed at a Missouri job site for an average of 20 or more hours per week and a Missouri resident. Completed nomination forms must be postmarked or faxed by August 13, 2010. The annual Older Worker of the Year recognition is sponsored by the Missouri Senior Employment Coordinating Committee, consisting of the AARP Foundation; Experience Works; Catholic Charities of Kansas City-St. Joseph; MERS/Missouri Goodwill Industries; Missouri Department of Economic Development/Division of Workforce Development; and the Department of Health and Senior Services/Division of Senior and Disability Services.

Whitaker Music Festival 2010 concert series featuring Gene Dobbs Bradford band
The popular Whitaker Music Festival returns this year with a ten-week lineup of free Wednesday evening outdoor concerts, June 2 through Aug. 4. ALEX’S LEMONADE STAND: Foundation for Childhood Cancer
Twelve-year-old Bryce Kelly, along with family and friends, will honor the memory of T.J. McKee and Ella by hosting his Fifth Annual Alex’s Lemonade Stand Friday, August 6 from 7am – 8pm and again on Saturday, August 7 from 7am – 5pm at 704 Caseyville Road in Collinsville, IL. Along with partially squeezed fresh lemonade, the two-day event will also include hot dogs, raffle items and a toy drive. Donations from the toy drive will be delivered to pediatric centers at various area hospitals. Bryce was inspired to get involved with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation after seeing a local news story on Alexandra “Alex” Scott. Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996-2004). 2010 marks 10 years since 4-year-old Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. Since Alex held that first stand, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement, complete with thousands of volunteers across the country carrying on her legacy of hope. The Hand of Hope: Benefit Concert
Jazz vocalist Erin Bode will present "The Hand of Hope," a concert to benefit the St. Vincent DePaul Social Ministries Program, on Sunday, Aug. 8, 4 - 7:30 p.m., at the St. Vincent DePaul Parish Center, 1408 S. 10th Street, St. Louis, MO, 63104.
